The Charleston County Sheriff's Office announced that it plans to increase traffic enforcement including DUI saturation patrols and safety checkpoints on James Island this coming Saturday. The Post and Courier repots that traffic deputies and members of the Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic Unit (HEAT) will be out in force from 7 p.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Sunday particularly in the areas of Folly Road and Riverland Drive.
The Sheriff's Office claims that the extra DUI enforcement is a result of the 12th annual Skinful Halloween party, which takes place this Saturday from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. at Brick House Kitchen on Folly Road. Last year a man was hit by a person charged with DUI after leaving the party. This could be part of the reason for the increased amount of police presence this year.
