Michael Turner, running back for the Atlanta Falcons, was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and speeding. Just hours after Turner rushed 42 yards and scored a touchdown for a 27-21 victory over the Broncos on Monday Night Football he was pulled over by police for allegedly going 97 mph in a 65 mph zone. Officers suspected Turner of being under the influence, but Turner refused to take a breathalyzer test. He was arrested for DUI and released two hours later on $2,179 bond.
The Falcons released a statement on Tuesday, stating that they were aware of Turner's arrest for DUI, but would not make further comment. Turner is in his fifth year of a six year contract worth $34 million.
He has since apologized to his team and his fans for his DUI arrest. Turner said Wednesday that he made "a bad decision" before he was stopped by police in suburban Gwinnett County around 5 a.m. Tuesday. Turner says he's sorry for the embarrassment he's caused the team and vows to do the right things to address the matter. He also says he expects to play Sunday against the Chargers.
